Check it out...

This is actually my first model without a tutorial. That's all i can do; blocky ships.

The little thing on the top is the bridge, and the part it sits on top of is the flatbed for cargo.

There's actually engines on the bottom but i couln't get it to render the bottom. Once I download truespace i can render everything.

To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

Well, youve got a start... but this definitly, definitly, needs detail.

Shape the front, add more internal space for a reactor and such, strap on the engines etc...
actualy, mabye not.

Flirting with infinity, your geometric progeny that fit inside you oh so tight with triangles that feel so right."

At most it looks like a table with no legs, with a cubical bottle on top!
:p
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

actually, there are engines, but Blender wasn't kind enough to render the bottom area. i'm planning to move the bridge over a bit. how would i go about shaping the front? any ideas?

this model was actually inspired by the Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos SnRV model.

this model could have been a little better, but I haven't used blender in a while.

crap

Mainly because its a squished box with 4 other squished boxes on top of it.  Judging by the theme, your engines were going to be 2 more squished boxes. Please, before you post, bother to make somthing which at least resembles a ship, instead of posting random crap just to get peoples attention.

Im gonna get banned for that.

I think...if you can make a model in exact same detail out of wooden building blocks, then it probably needs a wee bit more detail.

Experiment; you have a bridge there, for example.  So make it look like one; recess a window region (remember you need to plan ahead where you want the textures to go & why), move it to the fron of the ship proper, change the front itself to have some angles, etc.

What i'd suggest, is that you find an existing model, and rip it off; learn from copying the details on a per-poly as you see them on the wireframe (i.e. as shown in modelview), and then you can use what you learn from that to create stuff with a bit more detail.

Something to be aware of, Truespace is easier to texture in than Blender.  I have yet to figure it out.

Thing is Cobra, the simpler you make the design the more you have to 'tech' the surface to stop it looking like 6 cubes.

I only spent about 10 minutes on this, which is why it looks like a gameboy, but you can see what I mean....

I don't want to sound rude, and I really don't want to put you off, but posting images of your early experiments won't win you any fans.

Don't get me wrong, anyone who dabbles with modles has been in your position. You really need to find some tuts. Blender is popular so there should be plenty of sites about. :)

Hey Cobra, that looks sweet. Can you make a player-flyable version??
