who'd be up for doing this?
I've seen this done on several communities...

we pick a character.  say... "HLP Gary".  a little G.I. Joe or something.  Then we compile a list of people willing to play this game.

The way it works is you say if you're willing to participate.  After a week, I compile a list of ~20-25 names.  Say I start... I take a dozen or so pictures of "HLP Gary" doing things.  Like, I could take a picture of him on the dash of my car, a picture of him watching me type a message on HLP, a picture of him sitting in front of Space Center Houston (NASA), etc.  Then after a day or so, I post the pictures, and then mail him to the NEXT person on the list (i PM that person for an address).  He's light, so you put him in an envelope, and it'll be real cheap to mail.

The next person gets him, takes pictures of him doing whatever, and then after a day or two with him, mails him to the NEXT person.

The pictures they take, they post in a particular thread.  The thread stays 100% on-topic... there's ANOTHER thread for DISCUSSING what happens in the picture thread.  Anyone who posts something off-topic (i.e. anything but pictures) in the picture thread, gets their post deleted by a moderator.  Thus the thread is forced to stay on-topic.

What think?  It sounds dumb, but i've seen this done on at least one other community, and it's worked out pretty well... it's a lot of fun :p

There's no way I'd be able to do this, just cause I live on the other end of the planet. T_T

Re: who'd be up for doing this?
nonsense.  inter-continental takes 2-3 days tops.  and i send packages to Norway all the time, and it takes them around 5-7 days tops...

and as far as the "why do it?" question - ..... why post here.  what are you gaining from it.  see where i'm coming from? ;)

Well. I live in Singapore. Pretty far from the US, imo.

This is just for the fun of it. Plain, simple fun. Plus a sneak into the lives of the HLP members. :drevil:

Re: who'd be up for doing this?
exactly Stormkeeper.

We may group all the USA folks together, so shipping is cheaper and faster... and then send to Europe, then Asia, etc.

It's just for the fun of it.  FOR INSTANCE... here's a little sneak peak of another community that did something similar.  see my next post:

Just make sure Nuke gets it last.
No-one ever listens to Zathras. Quite mad, they say. It is good that Zathras does not mind. He's even grown to like it. Oh yes. -Zathras

Re: who'd be up for doing this?
we'd arrange the list based on:

1) physical location
2) willingness (financial means taken into account - for postage) to participate
3) community seniority

I know communities that have done this with 120 people, and it's worked, and i doubt we'd get (or need) that many people here.  I reckon a good 30 people would be nice though :)

Re: who'd be up for doing this?
I've been hoping someone was going to do that.  Thanks, Ashrak.

Something like this has been in-progress for a year or so on the Adult Swim programming block's forums; in this case, the item is a shot glass.  It actually came about as the result of a contest in the block's viewer bumps; people were given a certain amount of words to describe why they deserved to win the shot glass, and the winning entry said that they would get the glass, take a shot, and pass it along.  At some point, someone actually built a custom-made traveling case for the glass, and there's all kinds of memorabilia that travels along with it.  It's a pretty cool concept. :)

Re: who'd be up for doing this?
haha i like it!  but a shot glass is too hard... we need to use something more durable :)
