Coolest music in games, Part 2
 :bump:

Now a lot of people may be wondering why I am bumping a REALLY old topic (over 6 years since the last post), instead of starting a new one.  So in order to stem any criticism, or outright lambasting me for doing such a thing again, although last time I didn't give a bump emote or reason for doing so, I will give my reasons why this topic should be bumped again:

1.  Video game music is quite often a topic, which while popular, often gets left to the wayside in games because of "lulz g00d gr4ph1cs" (believe me that hurt me a lot more typing it, than you probably felt reading it) or "because we wanted to focus on the gameplay and didn't have space on the disc".

2.  Video game music should be appreciated, the same as all music really, and it should be archived and discussed, as we are in an ever-increasing age of companies pushing the "next-gen" hardware our way, in an effort to force us to part with our cash.  And if we don't do so?  We are seen as fossils, relics looking back with "rose-tinted glasses" or "remembering things only nostalgically".

With companies ever pushing this "next-gen or irrelevant" message, and backwards compatibility becoming increasing scoffed at as we move forward, it is up to US (you, me, everyone) to remember and catalogue our fond memories, our views on older games, lest they fall into obscurity.

3.  To put a new thread up would run the risk of being redundant, so why would I wish to do that?

4.  To put up a new thread up would ALSO mean that if or when the owners of the forums wishes to clean up / move / update the forums, it saves the hassle of having to trawl through multiple threads on the same topic.

5.  Finally, I wish more people would go and listen, just listen to the music of some of these games, and remember back to time when you thought a particular music track was awesome, got the adrenaline pumping like the music from E1M1 from DOOM, or was soft and somber like Aeris' Theme from Final Fantasy VII, or just brought a tear to your eye because they were just beautiful to listen to, like the soft strings of Okami's music.

Re: Coolest music in games, Part 2
aaaand you should still have made a new topic.

Which you now have, courtesy of a threadsplit.

Unless it's a campaign release thread, or a stickied one, noone cares about 6-year-old discussions. We do not care about thread redundancy. We especially do not care about bumps like yours, which are just you telling us why you think your bump was justified without actually adding to the topic.

During the past 6 years, the forum population has changed quite a lot. We have new people, with new tastes, and a whole ****ton of new music to get excited over. So discuss that, not why you bumped stuff. We clear on that?

EDIT: This was originally posted in this topic, for those interested.

Aaaand /thread.

(Seriously, though, I love Jeremy Soule.)

<Aesaar> literary criticism is vladimir putin

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

Re: Coolest music in games, Part 2
Yeah, I'd really like to contribute to this discussion but my *GAME* music library is easily over 10,000 files compromising 400 folders spanning midi, mods, formats ripped from ROMs, Amiga, C64, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, PC Engine, DOS, Windows and 25 years of gaming...

So I'll just say I really liked the Jeremy Soule tracks from TA: Kingdoms as well. Good stuff...

This thread has made me think of a soundtrack that I don't have, but that the Youtube Downloader is currently in the process of remedying, Formula 1 97. Just play this playlist and enjoy...

Ultima IX version of "Stones" - one of my all time favourites.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_MyYiO0rqo (no embed because this page loads slowly enough as it is!)

I'd hang around Iolo's house for no reason except to listen to the music (a pity the rest of the game was so bad).
