Due to a few threads on the subject and the general confusion about the LS nebulae, here is a VP file of the DDS format versions of Lightspeed's Nebulae, bundled with the retail missions updated to use them.
Installation instructions:
-Download the file
here.-Unzip. You need 7zip, which can be downloaded for free from
www.7zip.org. For those wondering why 7zip, it's free, open-source, and has higher compression than RAR format.
-Place the LSNebPlusFS2Missions.vp file in the same directory as your media VP files (ideally, this folder will be named mediavps).
-Run Freespace with the -mod flag set to your mediavps folder. As always, it can also be listed a a secondary mod to enable the nebulae in other mods, like Derelict.
This pack contains the missions as uploaded by Admiral Nelson in his thread, and Wanderer's version of the DDS-converted nebulae files. I opted to use Wanderer's files rather than the original image formats due to disk space requirements - the originals ring in at 140 MB, the DDs files come in around 40.
This is a stopgap measure until the nebulae and missions are both included in the next set of media VP files, although I may continue hosting it if the nebulae are relagated into advanced effects instead of the regular effects package.
