nah, there were certainly much larger empires thousands of years ago in terms of controlled land anyway; the British one was merely the most recent large one.

Actually the only empire larger to my knowledge (not including barbarian alliance, I mean things which lasted 100 years+) was the Roman Empire.

I think the english empire was indeed the largest one, they "owned" a large part of america, india, australia, and countless islands. The roamn empire was resticted around the mediterranean sea, which is not that big.

At it's peak it stretch from like Britain to India. But I think by that time it'd split into East and West and wasn't really a single empire.
