Sword of the Stars demo
Beat my first game (as Tarkas) overall it's what MOO3 should have been even moreso than Galciv 2 as it overall does space combat justice.

The few peeves I have seem to also be things that will be fixed in the full version or are technologies that you later research. (based on developer comments)

Never heard of Sword of the Stars before, but now I have to download and play the demo. MoO3 was a disappointment and I never got to like GalCiv2 even though I like the genre.

It's by the same lads that made Homeworld: Cataclysm, if you've played that.

Yep I have. HW:C was quite a decent game even though Somtaaw ship designs were too powerful IMHO.

I wonder why they decided to only include three hull sizes... seems awfully limited.

Re: Sword of the Stars demo
Urgh. Not very impressed by the demo. Looks rather nice, but coming off playing the likes of Homeworld2 and Nexus, the space-combat is quite lacking. Is there anything more you can control beyond 'attack this guy at range'?

Edit: Anyone with the demo up for a game of it online?

Re: Sword of the Stars demo
You can set formations and give orders such as what range to fire at, as well as target specific turrets or subsystems. (where you click on a ship determines where shots are aimed) What components your ships have, *heavilly* effect combat: i.e. lasers and missiles with the firecontrol command module are very deadly at range while mass drivers and the hammerhead command section are good for close range fighting. Firecontrol and spinal mount beams act like Homeworld's ICFs. Mix those with some point defence ships and plasma torpedo frigates and you have a good force.

Overall you have about the same depth of commands as you have in Homeworld or Nexus. The main difference, and why I like this, is that it adds in a lot of the strategic depth of Master of Orion.

But definately the demo is limited due to having so few techs, and only destroyer ships. But still very fun for multiplayer.

Man, I waited so long for another game like this, escpecially after that hoak that Moo3 was. The battle-effects look nice, but why the hell are the ships so colourful ? Looks like comic this way. Are those Player-colours that could turned off maybe ?

I'm defiantely gonna check this out.  BOTF, IG, SE4 were my bag.  MOO3 was rather diappointing. I've been fraid since to try something new.

BTW do you know if this game will me moddable? and to what extent?
