Haven't played this game in ages!

should i use This:

Both work. Except that ShivanSPS's Pack places an old version of OpenAL32.dll to your \freespace2\ folder. You'll need to remove it after installing the Pack.

And do keep in mind that you must have a copy of retail FS2.

Dunno. Probably not. In which case both methods have their pros and cons.

should i just manually download everything?

I have ISO's of Freespace 2.  I do have alot of archived downloaded media VP's and campaigns as well.

Remember: the reason there was no sequel to FS2 was because it didn't sell.  By buying the game from GOG, you can help remedy that.
