Ok, questions about directives, goals, and debriefings. Please help if you can.
Ok, here is where everything starts to take shape. I have made my first three levels for my campaigne. However I still need to get a few things done with them. Here are the problems:

1. Goals and directives: How do I get goals to light up in the directives box and then later turn darker blue after you complete an objective. Also, how do I set it up so that I can have a goal that will fail no matter what in game and it will still count the goal so that you can get past that level and onto the next. Also, how do I get a goal to show up later in game in the directives box. I know how to get the goal to work and everything. I just need to know how to get the directives box to work and what the rules are behind it. I know it has to do with the validate and invalidate options but I'm not sure how they work exactly.

2. Debriefings,
How do I time these out, place images, and how do I set it up so that if you fail a mission you get a different debriefing than you would if you had passed the mission?

Exactly what he said... I have two points to make here:

1) The walkthrough will teach you everything and MORE about FRED2. Its time consuming, but by the time you are done, it will have been WELL worth it, and it saves yourself from having to ask these questions here.

2) When you HAVE done the walkthrough, please keep these type of questions in the FS modding forum! Thanks!

Speaking of which....
WE ARE HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS. YOU WILL LOWER YOUR FIREWALLS AND SURRENDER YOUR KEYBOARDS. WE WILL ADD YOUR INTELLECTUAL AND VERNACULAR DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. YOUR FORUMS WILL ADAPT TO SERVICE US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

Hmmm, I read the walkthrough allready. I got bored and fell asleep LOL. I don't want to go through it again just to find out two things guys. I'm stating that the level is complete accept for those two things. It took tons of scripting, messaging and lots of events, I also have several ships going to different nav points, and I have it set up so that you can't warp until the end at which you can only warp out in one place. Other than those two last questions, I am done with asking. Everything else is solved.

No no no... you missed the point... don't READ the walkthrough, DO the walkthrough. Whether you have your whole mission completed or not, you still need to do it. There are things buried in there that will prove to be invaluable to your future in modding this game. Take the advice given to you from the vets...

Take 2 hours out of your day and just do it... ok? So what if this mission works and everything else is solved? Thats for this mission. Wonder if you want to get more abitious, and try some of the nicer things that FRED2 has embedded in it. Either you bug all of us with more of these questions, or you learn for yourself. Each mission is unique, and unless you know your design tool completely and extensively, the missions you put out will become repeditive and boring very fast... just more advice...

I didn't become the "German Army Modder" by sitting there and asking questions that were in the documentation.. I read the documentation, played with things for a while - THEN i asked people questions, questions that were not in the documentation

I never actually looked at the editor documentation at all until after I had gotten fairly skilled with FRED2 (just out of curiosity). I just fooled around with the various settings and checked out Volition's missions to learn how everything worked.
