@RSE!!! Trials of TS5 pt.2 - need help!
Yet another prblem... basically, I've been working on a wee corvette, and I've had some problems.

Firstly, the hull looks fine when I load it up and start mapping;

(apologies for the poor view)

This is fine.  however, when I go to select a face mode(to apply a specific UV map to it), this happens;

(untextured)

Basically, around half the normals become flipped.  This is both visible in TS and in 3dEx, where i rendered these pics. Also, I can't select the desired face in the first place - rather the one on the opposite side.

This only occurs when I select face, not when I work with a uniform UV map.  I've already ensured none of the normals are flipped when I made it (in blender).

I can map it normally, without this problem being a factor, but it won't look as good

So, any suggestions for fixing it?

I'd hate to have to go back to scratch.

I've had some models with problems like that. Still haven't found a solution for it though.

Forgive my ignorance and maybe it's just me, but is Truespace possibly the most unstable and buggy 3D package out there?

No, the older versions of Blender are

The newer ones just make some crappy poly output, but don't crash much.

I like using Blender 9think it's very easy), but it can be a bit dodgy, and I've had one other occurance of this before, albeit only on an engine area.  I think I may have to redo the ship from scratch, which is a shame cos it's a really sweet design

From my own experience, redoing a model usually leads to a better result

Thats the trouble, all the good modelling programs are usualy very expensive. It sucks.

Yes, Kazan. We all know your l33t crusade against Blender, but perhaps you'd like to supply everyone with a few hundred bucks for TS?

I dunno about modeling, i think any version of truespace 4 is best though.

But for texturing your ideal package is truespace 4.2

for me its very stable, it doesnt mess up hierarcy like the lower versions of truespace and it doesnt create individual material properties per face like 4.3 and above (this creates big file sizes and can slow down the program).  It has all the UV mapping techniques you need for freespace 2 texturing.  Trust me , im the daddy at this now
