At the risk of sounding like a clueless moron who shouldnt be using this program..

How the hell do you use this thing, I like to think im a smart person when it comes to computers and software but damn...

I just wanna get in and start drawing a ship, is there a good tutorial somewhere that gives a rundown on what buttons serve what function and where they are?

Oh how I miss 3D Studio Max

Ho there, young fellow! You sound like a man in need of Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ, the single greatest use of HTML known to man or beast. Ignore Hippo's TS bashing, since if I can work the basics of the program, anybody can

Good luck, and Semper Fi!

Hey I feel the same way.  I figured out how to model basic shapes in Maya 4.5 before I figured out how to plop a couple of cubes together in Truespace.  The system they have is absolutely insane...but some people like it that way...and achieve fantastic results.  All the power to them.

My first attempt at modeling was Rhino then I got my hands on 3D Studio Max at work. It was awesome, but alas no more Max. Oh well thanks for the Tutorial diamondgeezer, lets see what I can do with it!

Edit: PS its Simper Fi, Simper Fidelis if you want to get technical :D

I tried truespace once way back when. Thank god I don't have to use it. I'm not saying its bad software but whoever designed the interface needs to be taken out and shot. All those obscure icons. 'Er..A wavy line with a sort of arrow thing through it...' Ick. I was glad to get back to Lightwave where if you want to create a box, you click on the button confusingly marked 'Box' Ahhhh...sweet, sweet Lightwave.

Agreed, Blender rocks.  Heck, even I can get from a simple plane to something that resembles something else.  It doesn't take long to figure out how to make stuff.

I`ve never really had any problem with TS. You want to make a cube you click on the icon that looks like a cube! :) I don`t hear anyone *****ing about the interface for PSP cause it uses icons! :D

I suppose if I had more practice with 3D programs first I might have found it harder to use because I would have to learn all the ways that TS does things differently from other programs but since I learned how to model on TS it has never seemed very hard to me and after a while the UI actually becomes pretty simple to use

I've used TS exclusively (and some of you have seen what I've turned out) as has Tomcat. We both swear by it. :)

I've found that in 3D apps more than any other type of software that the first one you get used to tends to stick with you and anything else is horribly confusing. I'm just in the process of learning Maya after years being used to Lightwave and its killing me lemme tell ya. I've already done stuff that wouldnt even be possible in Lightwave but the simple things that would normally take me 10 minutes to accomplish are taking me hours...lol
