I've done this slightly amatourish render with a stripped down Ravana model as a first experiment with POV-Ray.
Is there anyone else using this prog ?

As I said it was only a trial. I've tried a few effects like fog and media, and found that they have some limitations. The emission media effect is cool IMO, but it requires an object behind it to work. Also I could not make objects transparent in fog, there were always some strange artifacts around them. For this, the "interior media" (particles within objects) did not work together with the simple fog effect, etc.
Anyway I've just tasted the prog.

What I'm curious about is, if others are using POV-Ray in this community, and if it has some advantage over the 3DS or TS renderers.

With a nice chromic shining and radiosity I suppose.
'cos that's the thing which PR is especially good at.;)

Any particular reason why the Ravana is untextured?

1) There is currently no program which could convert texture mapping data from 3DS or COB into POV-Ray format (except a demo which removes each 5th faces from the model ). :sigh:
UV mapping is a relatively new feature in PR.

2) Laziness. :p
I only wanted to try some effects. Btw image changed from 640x480 to 800x600 with some more media around the engines. This unfinished  Rav apparently has an engine failure. :)

POVray? Well, you get what you pay for. Personally, I'd recommend cruising the bargain bins and looking through Ebay for some cheap graphics software. You can generally score a nice old copy of MAX somewhere for a couple hundred if warez isn't your thing, and if you don't mind memory leaks RDS is nice where you can get it.

I've been using MAX (3.1) for a while, and it's great. I converted this model from 3DS to PR.:)

Only tried it out of curiosity to see what it can do in rendering, 'cos there has always been some criticism about the renderer of MAX. Also there are some really stunning graphics around made in PR.
Not too user friendly, but still an interesting prog IMO. Could do some really good pics with some extra work.

Seemed to be soo difficult at first sight, that I was bound to like it. :D

Hmm.........Iam not familar with that program but I think that it looks ok for a render..........Maybe you should doctor it up a bit with a Paint program like PSP or something.......:D

I like the lego ships !
Cerberus:
I suppose that it was intended to look like a lego ship (made of plastic). If not, than it could use at least some bumpiness on the surface. Just one question: what are the two small green balls on the render ? :)

The beams are nice on the other renders. What kind of plugin your friend is using for the lens flare ? Also one note for the explosion effects: turbulence does wonders to this kind of media effect in PR

Good work.

Not too keen on cosmetics. :D
I may improve it with some more effects and texturing.
I do not intend to dig too deeply into PR though.:)

No kidding, I don't know anything else that can render a tennis ball like PR. :D

Thnx guys, I used Photoshop 6...or 5 for the beams, I used one of Thund...er...Kalfireths tutorials.

and the 2 green blobs, are part of the lens flare.
