I did a quick look at the TUT.

1. From your pic it seems it doesn't have a texture or procederal texture.
2. You didn't take the time to read the tutorial properly.
3.why did you post a screenshot of your rendering options?
4.And why the lensflare screen.

Sory i can't help you with this. But it seems to me you hardly took the time to follow the steps properly. And also he uses a older version of LW so diferent functions maby placed/named diferently.

Dude, why do you bother making it in Lightwave when you can make a cool beam using simple methods. Ok Here is an example of my beam. Well it may not quite rock, but it was made in 2 minutes time.

That's 3 minutes still longer than me, that'd say 2,5 times longer.
By the way, Dave who? :wtf: And any link reffering to the beam wouldn't harm.

Free Terran, maybe you forgot to enable glow on the scene? Using two planes like that is a very good idea for making beams, with post glow of course - I might steal it ^_^ Anyway, yeah, to enable glow in the scene, you need to make sure the surface of the object has glow turned up, then go to scene menu, select the 'more' under 'effects', and select image processing, then select 'enable glow'. Play with the settings for desired effect.

Oh, and all you people saying "why not do it in a 2D program", well, you try making something in a 2D program convincingly and consistently interact with the surroundings in an image. Like, if you want the beam to actually hit something accurately and to scale along its length. Or, if you want it to properly illuminate something. Basically, because it looks better when done well.

Meh. That's what I get for going anywhere near a computer without acrobat reader... I look stupid when I get back to my own comps. Bloody libraries...
