Bit of an adware/spyware problem (serious)
Everytime I start up internet explorer I'm bombarded with pop-ups telling me my computer is loaded with spyware. They are all telling me to download their program, ad wiper or something. As if that isn't enough, one of the pop-up windows opens my CD drive..which is just plain annoying...

Adaware and Spybot don't do a thing to it.

It also sets my homepage to something different as well...it is EXTREMELY annoying, and I need some help getting rid of it.

Please!:)

EDIT: McAfee hasn't turned up anything either...

:blah:

I changed my homepage back...and it seems to have fixed it. I used spybot to block changes to the homepage. It must not have been on my HD at all.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll do that also just to make sure.

two things.

1. get rid of your file sharing proggie. every computer i ever installaed kaza in got really screwed. if you must use a file sharing proggie, use something open-source, such as nucleus (which if far better than kazaa imho).

2. dont look at porn or warez sites. they tend to use few ethics in their web programming. if you must try to get an old version of netscape (the one that was out before it started sucking anything < version 4 works fine). ie is ok so long as the page your looking at is reputable. once you go evil, your pretty much screwed.

i used to manufacture computers and when peopke had software problems, most of them eighter used kazaa or were full of porn. also try to avoid free programs that are full of ads. they mey tell you what teperature it is outside and keep your clock uber accurate, but they tend to make sure your screen is full of ads. and some ads contain ilicit code.

If you are going to use Kazaa, at least use Kazaa Lite. It may be hard to find a proper download for it anymore, but its still out there and it still works. No spyware or ads.

If you're having trouble finding KaZaA lite, send me a PM and i'll give you the link to it.

also, for removing your spyware, use "Spybot S&D".  it's a great program :)

I had a similar problem to what you had and ad-aware  does absolutely nothing. I tracked it down, but ended up deleting one thing in the registry by accident. The problem still kept reoccuring, so I just formatted my hdd and the little snippet of code was then gone... and from what I found, the problem originated from a microsoft domain. Can u believe that  bastards :hopping:
