What do you guys think? It's for my own private space sim venture :)

...

It's a chair.

Honestly, there's nothing to "think" about at this point. There's basically no geometry to speak of, certainly nothing to comment on there, and as there aren't any textures it's impossible to tell whether the final will look okay or not. It's just a random chunk of geometry.

But a very pretty hunk of geometry :)

Anyways, the problem is, I can't make joysticks. Suggsetions?

just put a cylinder in there. it's not like the rest of it is real complexed, so a cylinder with a button on top should work.

I'd rustle up a pilot model first, so you can be sure to get the proportions correct.

Chamfer the edges (if your 3D program allows it).

lol yes very pretty :)

maybe bevel the front panel in a bit after an inset, sukken it, then add some... add detail to it. eg, targeting screen, switches, etc. :D
hehe. but yeh really needs textures before real observations can be made... :D

nice effort :D keep going.

Needs textures to really tell. Otherwise, it's just a chair.

A pretty chair, nevertheless. :D
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

What would be an acceptable texture for it?
I'm trying to keep it as switch-free as possible, since the pilot is going to have both his hands busy with the control sticks (two of them), so the cockpit full of switches and dials isn't going to work :)

Readouts.... speed, location, local map, radar, ship status (hull, weapons, etcc stats), engine gauges, various warning lights, rear view camera, gun cam, target readout, oxygen levels, backup power levels, energy flow regulators......etc.

Plus touch-sensitive buttons.

The problem is, if you think about it, that'll probably all be integrated into the touch-screen MFD's up front :D
Hence my conundrum :)

I wouldn't put the control stick(s) in view of the player, it only adds difficultiy for you and is of dubious benefit to the player.  Remember Hellbender?  A perfect example of over the top design.

Glowing MFDs and stuff are good, but don't add anything that is going to hinder the player's enjoyment of the game.  That is what it is about after all.

Ah - but they would have to keep touching the screen to change display, then  ;)

Oooo...you're right :)
But it would save space (and money) if that happened, so it would probably happen anyway :)
And Lib, what do you mean about the joysticks?

Well, I mean think about it, you would have to take at least a day's dev time to get it looking good, and most players would likely complain that it blocks they're veiw or sommat.

I remember trying to make a jet cockpit out of a big cardboard box when I was 5 and wanted to be a pilot. That mode looks a whole lot better than my attempts. :D
