The mainhall music for FS1 was great, especially when coupled with the flightdeck on the Bastion.

EDIT:  Just opened up the vp's on my FS1 CD's...  Ah, the music brings back so many fond memories.
Makes me wonder how it would all sound with real instruments.

There is little difference between the tracks called Brief7 and Cinema. At least as far as I am noticed.

There's no difference at all. The music.tbl points at the same tune in both cases

I actually prefer all of FS2's music, especially Joshua and Numbers. Although FS1's music is definitely great too. A lot of people seem to hate the vocals in FS2, but I think they're excellent.

I wish that there was a way to get the original files though in a higher quality format, it's a shame that it was so heavily compressed.  Taking a listen to the VP based files, and the publicly posted songs from FS2, there's a big difference there.  If the original soundtrack from FS1 was in that good of quality, and acquirable, I wouldnt mind submitting some work in further improving the FSPort with higher quality music.  I would be beside myself with joy, as it's really the only game music that moves me personally.  

I got a question though.  What if I were to make a mod with some of the Red Faction 1 music?  Would that be against copyright stuff?  Probably, because THQ has rights to RF...

If you tried to make money with said music, then definitely, but I'm not so sure about just using it for a mod, since you don't profit from it.

It's still illegal.  Doesn't mean you'd get in any trouble for it, but unless you're somehow promoting Red Faction it's probably a no-no.

The whole sound of FS2 came across as much more mature IMO.

FS2 music gives it more of a space-opera, epic feel. FS1 gave it an action packed POW POW POW feel, which is what both games reflect anyway.
And I agree with a previously stated sentiment: FS2's weapons effects also sound way more "mature" than in FS1.

You can't? What's wrong? All you have to do is open FreeSpace\Data\freepace.vp in VPView, click on music and then select one of the .wavs to hear the music. Select them all and choose extract to listen to them outside of VPView. What went wrong?
