I remember I found a major bug with the demo before I even started playing it.

It's also something like $4 at a local software store. X2 is, unfortunately, $30.

Eh....I don't know.  Tachyon was kinda underwhelming.  The economy and customization came across as kind of half assed.  Really not too many choices to make.  Combat wasn't spectacular, wasn't horrible either - just lacking in variety.

It had it's moments - the sisteen chapel mission comes to mind - but pretty much after I beat both pathways, I uninstalled it and haven't had any urges to try it again.

Tachyon was ok. I finished the game through; for the first and second time its a great play, especially when you see the differences in each path. But after that, it looses it's replay value....

I still have my original disk somewhere. When i´m short of games to replay, i still sometimes install it to have some fun. It´s an average game. But if you want a space combat game, try Starlancer. Much better. By today´s standards, Starlancer is still a very good game. Great graphics, awesome radio chatter, cool ships, and loads of fun.

Yeah I got Tacyhon on budget a while back. Bruce Campbell does the voices, thats the games biggest plus. semi-newtonian physics was an interesting change but the story and universe is pretty forgettable in the end. Only bothered playing the rebel (good) story.

Way too many missions where you have to wait around for your shields to recharge before proceeding. combat could be pretty hard, which is a plus on freespace. The AI seemed pretty competent.

I remember it had gay capship battles. No beams, no torpedoes, just dull. And the nebulas looked weird too.

Tacyhon was Ok, IMO.  Nice animated textures and cockpit, fairly detailed stations, interesting nebula effect, and a curious newtonian model.

On the other hand, a lot of the dogfighting was dull, I found the story a bit dull, and the voiceover got on my tits.

EDIT; I think I got it for £3 somewhere (new).  Second cheapest game I've ever bought (next to Project Eden, which was 99p - I bought it as much out of sympathy as actively wanting it)

Actually, when I played the Freelancer demo, I thought "Freelancer" became open source, then I remembered it looked different and played differently. Then I found Freespace 2.

ummm, yeah it did. Beams were only used against other capship/stations, so you didn't see them very often.

The whole game is kind of cheesy, though, I mean: REDSHIP RORY!!!!
