You're going to have a terrible time getting that into FS, I bet...if that is in fact your plan. Not sure what it is you're going for, but I can tell you there is a better way of going about it. I would suggest, since you're using Max, to take the tutorial on modeling a low poly ship. This tutorial will teach you about working with general aspects of modifying geometry.
I'd recommend to try making a ship starting with a box, and then right click the box and convert it to an Editable Poly. Then using the right menu you can select different sections of the poly using different methods such as vertex, edge, face, etc. I usually prefer to make Terran ships using face extrusions, bevels, MSmoothing and Relax functions. If you're aiming for a more alien or Shivan design and want to make those spiky extensions, then simply use the vertex selection method and take the points you want to drag out and pull them out in different directions.
Practice, experiment, research & learn before doing major projects, and you'll perfect your craft. The key is persistence.
Then practice using the symmetry modifier. Some who model ships prefer to concentrate on modeling only one half of the ship, and then just slapping a symmetry modifier on to make it perfect. Be sure, once you've done anything using this method to right click on the modifer stack and select "Collapse All."
Also remember that in the Utilities section you can use the Polygon Counter. Just go to Utilities tab, click the More... button, and then select Polygon Counter. When you become more advanced in your modeling skills, using the Polygon Counter will be handy, because you'll have so much detail you know how to add to a ship that you'll have to work on retaining detail!!
Hope I've helped and haven't been too unspecific, vague, or general.
