Is it true of the rumor that some person named "Derrick Smart'' or something bought the rights of Freespace from Interplay?
If so, what are his plans for it?

No, it's not. Last I heard he'd decided not to buy them.

There is a big thread in Hard Light you can read if you're feeling bored. The whole fiasco was awhile back, so you may have to search for it.

Derek Smart is hated because all his games are overambitious steaming piles of garbage. He gave up buying the rights to work on his latest game or something. If you must know who he is, I point you to this SomethingAwful review of one of his games.

Actually he's hated here because when considering purchasing the Freespace rights he came in here both demanding that we worship him and threatening to sue all of us back to the stone age at the same time.  Not a good way to introduce yourself, that's for sure.

He was a prick! He should be burned at the stake. He came here and insulted us and flamed us when we suggested stuff. Unofrtunately, by the time i found and read the full topic, it was locked, here and at his fourms, and i was not able to put in my 2 cents.

If, on his forums, you say his game has a bug, he'll say it's a feature and ban you permanently. Do anything else and he'll threaten to sue you.
