The cast of FreeSpace 2
FreeSpace 2 had an interesting voice cast, as recorded on IMDB.

The cast included Robert Loggia as Admiral Petrarch (Independence Day, Sopranos, Lost Highway), Ronny Cox as Admiral Aken Bosch (Murder at 1600, Stargate SG-1), Kurtwood Smith (“Red” on that 70’s show! :pimp:), and Stephen Baldwin (um... Bio-Dome…  :wtf:).

I've got to go back to single player just find "Red" yelling at me... I can't wait.  ;)

Then? For me they're just expensive actors who made their contribute to FS' downfall.

How did they contribute to it's downfall? Explain yourself when you make rash statements like that...

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
I'd rather say they contributed to FS2's greatness. It wouldn't be anywhere near as captivating if not for the superlative voice acting. What made it fail in the stores was Interplay not marketing it at all, so noone had a clue it existed unless they stumbled upon it by accident or read a (spectacular) review of it in a magazine. Which isn't exactly the best recipe for a blockbuster.

Taristin:those actors didn't voice act gratis.
They're not simple actors, who knows how many $ they wanted?

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
Exactly, who knows? So how do you know that they cost so much as to lead to the downfall of FS2?

If you think the game cost too much to make, and that is what caused FS2 to be so unpopular, you should really read up on your history.

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
Yeah... um.. so anyway     :nervous:

So if you downloaded the avi versions of the cutscenes, you can jump straight to "Red's" voice contribution... it's in colossus.avi.

I'm so sad... he doesn't yell at all!

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
You are totally missing the reason why FS2 wasn't a commercial success. It did not fail Interplay or lose them much (if any) money; Interplay failed it.

Another thing you are forgetting is that FS2 predates the current agreement between the screen actors guild and the game studios, an agreement which inflates the price of voice work by well-known actors considerably over what it was when FS2 was made. Back when FS2 was made, voice acting by movie actors was generally not something that payed really big bucks.

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
Considering how (un)successful the game was, it would make no difference even if they had voice acted for gratis.
I mean, if only the costs matter, its better just to sit and do nothing.

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
And besides the rights issue, there's the time issue. It's been 7 years since FS2 was released, and that's only getting longer. A sequal just doesn't happen after that long, especially a sequal in a genre that has been practically dead for that entire span of time.

OK, so what Mobius is saying is that we should not have any voice in the game and still not have an FS*, Instead of having great voice actors and no FS*.

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
Kara, problem's that some ppl are so stuck with their rules, that they even forget what it is for in the first place... FS3 is just a name and a possible, yet very VERY faintly possible game. Noone wanted to discuss any topic about it, simply the name was mentioned.
Imo, Martelato and especially Unknown Target should set a tiny bit on themselves, and only go aggro at ppl with a reason, not just to show that they're oh so into the community. :\

As for newbies asking about FS3... Well! If a newbie didn't read anything behind the community, the newbie wouldn't know that you guys have put the name on tabu! Why wouldn't they ask about it? If they did read about this, then they prolly know the reason about it too, so why ever would they ask about it again? :)

On my part, FS2 totally stood up to FS1! It's a game which had very nice in graphics, controls, sound, optimization and most of all in the feeling for 1999! I dunno how you guys see this, but even thinking that the game itself couldn't make up for its development price without someone messing things up... Hard to believe from a FreeSpace fan :D

Lastly: Unknown Target, be naughty then! >)

Zwah?  :nervous: Me?  :shaking: As the conductor of this train, I'm just trying to keep people from derailing off the original topic my friend.  I wasn't trying to aggro at anyone.

This thread is useless. Im tempted to just lock it.
A shame... I thought we all had enough attention spans to stay on one topic without swaying onto a weird tangent within 5 minutes.  Let's see how it pans out, and if it gets any uglier, then no more monkeying around on this topic.   ;7

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
Locking this thread is not really fair to martellato,  so I won't, but I'll add this...

No more mentioning the two-letter-and-a-number confirguration please. Should the subject ever need to be discussed I don't have a problem, but I don't want to have to moderate 15 flame wars all going on in 15 threads all titled 'What would you like to see in FS3', which is precisely what would happen.

I am a lazy bastard, and plan to stay that way, please don't give me work ;)

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
Mars, you're rather observant

Thx Flip, I would honestly love to get back on topic... I think it's an interesting one.  I appreciate the chance.

Re: The cast of FreeSpace 2
Because common sense would say; "Hm, this community has been around for almost seven or so years. I'm sure they must have discussed it at least once. Let me do a search". Common sense would say that.

I concur. In fact, I believe new members should use the search function exclusively, and never post themselves. After all, in seven years, we've said everything that can be said, ever, on every topic imaginable. QED.
