Too right. The books were far superior to the TV series.
The TV series had potential, but it was never used.
Like Dune.
The David Lynch and Alan Smithee cuts of the film were wer good efforts, but between them too much was either left on the cutting room floor or left out all together for either to be a good adaptation of the book.
Like
*The Lynch cut is missing extra scenes in the Lynch cut (BUT not the animated prologue or all those repeated "stockfootage" type bits)
*the Smithee cut is missing the element that make Baron Harkonnen the "Bloody Baron" he is in the Lych cut. - Granted none of it was in the book, but it works for the character. and the scene where he unpluggs that guy makes him a better villain
*Both versions have very minor use of the Lansaraad(Sp?) and maor player Count Fenrig is missing.
*No mention at all of the existance or death of Leto Atreides II - the Elder
*Both cuts lack the death of Thufir Hawat and his machinations within House Harkonnen
*Both lack the original ending of the book - they use that stupid "Paul make it rain" ending
*Not in the book but both versions are missing a scene showing a character called Nefud being tortured
