Multiplayer Team vs. Team reinforcements
I've been noticing that in a multiplayer game, Fred will not let there be reinforcements while on Team vs Team. Or wait scratch that... The real question is how to get past the "cannot have reinforcement wing with mixed teams. sucka!" message whenever I try to add a reinforcement wing to this multiplayer mission I am attempting.

What does it take to be able to summon reinforcements (more prefferrably wings, but even summoning a cruiser isn't working...), and can it be done in a Team vs. Team match?

The idea is that each team acts as the command staff of opposing factions, and each side must manipulate their fleets to destroy the other team's base. They call in different ships to pound the enemy.

Re: Multiplayer Team vs. Team reinforcements
If you could call in reinforcements on a team vs. team match then that means you would have an advantage over the opposite team. Seems the game will not allow you to do that (for obvious, very reasonable stipulations).

Also, IIRC you cannot define which reinforcements are forced to spawn in for a specific team. So that's a big no-no.

That one should be fixed in 3.6.10 builds for singleplayer. You've always been able to set reinforcement wings via the Wings editor.

If neither of those work for you post again (or better yet Mantis this) and I'll take a look. The code does appear to show that reinforcements should work in TvT.

While I'm at it, be very careful with wings of capships. You're not supposed to do that. FRED does have reasons for complaining if you try and if you use fancy FREDding to get around that you've got no one to blame but yourself when it all comes tumbling down around your ears.

Well... the idea is not to give one team advantage over the other--you see, each team has the exact same number of reinforcements available. It's how they use them that gives them the advantage--or disadvantage. It adds a greater level of strategy to the match.

And thanks, Karajorma.

One more question. I've been using FS2NetD to run multiplayer with my friends, but only one of us can start a match that the others can see. The only difference between us and him is that he hasn't modded out his tables. Will people be unable to see our games if we start them with "hacked" tablefiles?

Re: Multiplayer Team vs. Team reinforcements
I just created a test mission with Alpha and Zeta wing both consisting of one player ship.  Also added 2 wings one friendly and one hostile that are reinforcement units.  Tossed in a Fenris for the heck of it and it allowed that as a reinforcement unit as well.  Granted I didn't try running it (too much processing at the moment) but it passes the FRED error checks.  Where exactly are you having problems?

That's nothing to do with modding at all. It's actually due to port forwarding and NAT. Your friend either has no router or has one which allows/has been configured to allow port forwarding on port 7808. If you haven't done that whether you are visible or not depends on whether you have played a game with them as host previously.

You should find that after you have played a game with this guy that he can now see you even if no one else can. That's an obvious sign of it being a NAT problem. Forwarding ports should solve it.

Re: Multiplayer Team vs. Team reinforcements
Thanks... I got the port forwarding deal working. Haven't had a chance to test it on my friends yet, but it should work now.

And about having trouble... It happened when I would use Shift-R to bring up reinforcements editor in Fred, and add a reinforcement wing, it told me "Cannot have reinforcement wings with mixed teams." I haven't yet encountered this while defining a wing as a reinforcement wing in the Wing editor.

I encountered another problem:, whenever I run this mission, despite all teams having about 999 of everything... my team almost never has anything to work with. we never get any missiles to load out, and we find our missile bays loaded with BFReds, AAAfs and TerSlashes. And then because we don't have any missiles, we can't start the game.

Any solutions?

As I said, that's exactly what I'd expect in 3.6.9. The code was doing something rather stupid and as a result it wouldn't work for anyone. The bug is fixed in 3.6.10.

That's a new one on me. Which build are you using?
