Hey guys!  Thought I'd pop in and contribute a bit, so I compiled a collection of books that will help define the "good extended universe" and will help fill out my personal vision of what Star Wars should be.  Now don't be offended if your favorite book doesn't appear here, this is just my collection of the books that all play nice with each other without contradictions and work with each other to create a continuous universe.

Order of experience is as follows:

Watch:
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back

Read: Shadows of the Empire
Watch: Return of the Jedi

Read:
X-Wing series through Solo Command
Thrawn trilogy
Isard's Revenge
I, Jedi
Starfighters of Adumar
Thrawn Duology

You can read the Bounty Hunter Wars whenever you want, they don't really play too much into the events of the other books.  You could read the books right after you watch Return of the Jedi, although they flashback quite a bit to events just after A New Hope.

This group of books and movies is what I will be trying to steer this mod towards.
Enjoy!

I dunno about you but, sadly, the links make a big red COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL -sign blink in my brain and thus I can only wonder what exactly is HLP's policy regarding e-books. :nervous:
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

Yeah but it's on HLP so I'm going to have to remove those links until you can prove to me it's legal to do so.

aw, my library only has the first 2 X-wing books, plus Iron fist. At least in that series, theres plenty more, but they're in the venue of Children of the Jedi, and lots of prequel ****.

And theres two more really good books:

Allegiance (Timothy Zahn, inludes Mara Jade!)

and

Death Star (a collection of intertwined stories about about 10 people that somehow get involved in the mystery surrounding the death star. contains numerous PoVs.)

You should also include the Tales series:

Tales from Jabba's Palace
Tales of the New Republic
Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina
Tales from the Empire
Tales of the Bounty Hunters

Think that's all of em, unrelated to the comic book pretty much.

Personally I quite liked the Black Fleet Crisis series as well, if for nothing other than it's one of the rare examples of actual tactics and strategy used in the Star Wars universe.

I agree, but it also has some issues when it comes to this game, such as conflicting sizes and fleet strengths with the rest of the Star Wars universe.  That's the only reason I left it out.

I'd vote to include Revenge of the Sith if someone would put the whole thing on youtube with the score isolated like they have with the original trilogy.  I think the Venator class fits in well with the real Star Wars aesthetic, though that might be the only one.  I don't mind the Acclamator either, it just doesn't seem to have very much character compared to the other star destroyers.  But yeah, as long as you could close your eyes and listen to the music when they fight the buzz droids it might be pretty watchable.  They do decapitate Christopher Lee. :eek2:

Venators should have been Victories, and Christopher Lee wasn't bad, his lines were.  Also, my main gripe with the Venator is its magical ability to carry 35 squadrons of fighters compared to the Imperial's capacity of 6 fighter squadrons.  What the hell.

I fully agree that old republic tech being superior to the imperials' in any way is silly and should be ignored, even in a galaxy that seems to make almost no progress from KOTOR times to the movies.  The empire should have the best of everything (except health care).  And Christopher Lee is one of my favorites, it's just that his deaths are always a highlite of the movie.  Killed with a wooden stake, stabbed completely through the chest by D'Artagnan, shot through the heart by James Bond, falls off a giant tower and onto a spike, etc.  Actually star wars is the only one I can think of right now where something doesn't pass through his torso. The Victory class is good too, though I'd be thrilled with any of them if they were modeled up to the standards of this mod's ISD.

And yet, terrible minimalism.  A power as small as the Yevetha should have been trivial for the Republic to crush.

Ah well.  Not as bad as the Corellian trilogy, in which the entire fleet manages to be on maintenance stand down at once and they have to go begging for cruisers from some inconsequential Outer Rim system.   :ick:
