OK ,sorry ,I normally try to avoid this ,but I didn't even know that there was instrumental versions of those songs.
Maybe those was just edited in some program ,I know it's possible to remove voice from recording (though it impacts quality).
Anyway there's always freeplay: www.freeplaymusic.com
I remember that High Noon 2.0 was using some of music from there.

Yeah, I love that site. I got the whole in-mission soundtrack from one of the Electro-Rock albums, in fact I'm pretty sure apart from the BoE's half the reason Commander Zane plays my missions is for the music :P

Re: Anyone else have strange urges regarding music?
I always thought about making a mission using ABBA which caused the majority of the GTVA fleet to self destruct and the player to turn off the sound while saying "It burns! It burns!!".

Re: Anyone else have strange urges regarding music?
My only musical suggestion is to find instrumental versions of select Nightwish tracks, which makes me wonder why i'm not listening to it now...
Ghost Love Score and Nemo.:yes:

Great to see someone else enjoys that band. :D

Ghost Love Score, Tenth Man Down and Planet Hell...

Damn Shame it'll never happen appart from Private missions

Re: Anyone else have strange urges regarding music?
They all have vocals anyway ,I think that it's not the best idea to put the song into mission.
But they are great to listen when FREDing.  :)

Re: Anyone else have strange urges regarding music?
Maybe it's because for the longest time I've listened to music while gaming, but vocals in-game don't really bother me at all :/

Re: Anyone else have strange urges regarding music?
Don't you think that having a song about love in background while bombing a capship is a bit weird?  :)
The problem is that sometimes text doesn't correspond to action ,10th Men Down is about war ,but that's all.
In my opinion songs can be used for example in movies ,where you have complete control of what's happening and you can time everything. In mission there's always some randomness.
Those battle scenes I think about while listening ,for example ,Ghost Love Score are movie-like (though involving my ships).

10th Man Down goes with any sort of combat in my opinion...Ive seen it put to Sailor Moon for christ's sake!

And that was pretty crappy, but at least Sailor Moon had just barely enough of the right "violence is bad" ethos for it to make sense.

It doesn't really fit the FS ethos, for that very reason. If we had stopped at the Terran-Vasudan War, it would have, but the Shivans are wearing the black hats and are a threat that can only be met with and dealt with violently. The NTF has a similar problem.

You can always choreograph it (I've personally always thought the opening to Stargate Atlantis would be excellent for a campaign opening or trailer if I ever learned to work cutscenes). But unchoreographed combat requires a different sort of music.

Well, except for that one time Bosch did that thing that might or might not have been semi-peaceful contact (if your name was Bosch, Gibson, Sarno, or about a dozen others, and not 'Iceni mook.')

Re: Anyone else have strange urges regarding music?
I'm working on ways of chopping up music so that it has a relatively uniform intensity and works well with FS2's music system. I've had good results so far with Dream Theater's "Panic Attack" and Judas Priest's "Hell Patrol."
