Re: Need a solid, temporary graphics card. Options?
No, I did understand you. You're assuming he can do any sort of gaming that goes above solitaire on his current setup. Since he has an onboard graphics chip, that assumption is probably wrong and a 50$ graphics card would be a major improvement.
I don't think so because you sure took it and still are taking it the wrong way. I'm not really assuming too much, all i said was play the games that he has crappy or play them good. Also, you're not giving onboard graphics enough credit. Modern day onboard graphics are not worthless. They will let you play your games on low or medium low settings (in other words, crappy, but playable). And of course a $50 graphics card would be a major improvement. In the area of onboard graphics, you assumed too little. My whole point was to convey another understanding that during unemployment, people should think about reducing waste, find alternatives, and possibly even learn to be content with what they do have.
As for telling him to play on someone else's hardware if out of money.. he already made the call to spend this money on a card, and it's his decision entirely. Frankly if in a few months he gets enough cash to buy a high end one, he still won't have wasted his money. I say this from experience, having a backup older card you're not using can be all sorts of useful when your high end one decides to burn it's vram out.
And at any time he can also unmake his decision to buy another video card, or continue on (it's not up to me). And of course having a backup video card is handy. Whatever, that's not what i was trying to explain. Just explaining a theory behind how this can be wasteful. You not only misunderstood, you also misinterpretted. I will say this newman, i'm not forcing my will upon others like you seem to be thinking i am attempting. I don't know why you're getting pissed off, or so defensive over this topic. But, i have not pissed mars off, and if i had he can defend himself.

Who's getting pissed off? :P
Anyway you take everything I say in the worst possible way so it's probably best if I chime out now. As Klaustrophobia said, situation resolved anyway.

I tend to agree with what S-99 was trying to say (I think). The thing with graphics cards is that they are, for the most part, transferable between systems (at least over an average 3-5 year upgrade cycle). You can buy something like a (1GB) GTX 460 or 6850 Radeon now safe in the knowledge that, although your current system might not be able to use it to its full potential, the system you build tomorrow definitely will. Still, if you're getting the temporary replacement for free then that's money in your pocket for other things.

I had no such intent. Believe it or not I got better things to do than go around the forums looking for ways to piss you off. I'm sorry you took it so personally and way out of proportion. Not really my problem, though.

Just FYI Newman, if S-99 keeps acting like this I'll put him up for a monkey. You've been perfectly civilized, he's got a bad track record.

Let it slide for now.

Re: Need a solid, temporary graphics card. Options?
I'll just leave this topic with saying this. It seems to me not many people in this thread understood me completely (maybe i'm going out on a limb with this, but i see it).

Obviously he disagreed with me on buy good hardware, or don't buy at all for the limited income unemployed situation which emphasizes spending less money in the future to negate an unnecessary redundancy. On my end of the spectrum would be recommending the don't buy at all part of it and seek free alternatives whatever they may be.

On the other hand if people don't understand someone, usually there's disregard, discount, ignorance, and even constraint. Instead of asking to explain better.

Based on how this topic went since i joined, even my first post was a waste of my time.

Calling him a piece of crap, unnecessary. Sorry for calling you a piece of crap newman.

Uh. . . I don't suppose anyone has Stealth's e-mail or something? I imagine he's already shipped it, but if he hasn't a change of address may be desirable.
