If there's enough, I'll upgrade the server to get another 512MB of ram, it's another $10 a month, but there's also a CPU upgrade to 2GHz, double the storage space (not an issue at the moment) and (although it means little given our usage,) an extra 1TB of bandwith

nothing2strange and I have been working on rolling out a high-speed rail network using mostly existing track originating from the new main station under spawn.

You might wanna remove the high speed bit...it crashed my game 5 times in 10mins and I won't be the only one :\

Was just playing on the Lostcraft server with a guy I know.  The other day a pair of guys ganged up and killed me, so me and my friend completely eradicated their house and replaced it with a hollow hill with an illuminated tree on top with a sign notifying them of how theyhad just been ****ed, and a 50 block deep pit inside, bellow where they'll spawn. So they will either fall to their death upon spawn, or have to spend ages digging themselves out.

Revenge is sweet...

Have you got any client mods installed?
I havn't had any crashing issues on either my tower or netbook, and n2s was on a laptop with a 1.4ghz processor, 512 ram and an old intel GMA and despite being abit jittery we didn't have any crashes on it.

The only thing that has happened is ocassionly getting teleported into the void when the server is having a derp, but that doesn't crash the client, just puts you  into the void so you have to rejoin. Crashing 5 times in 10 mins sounds very extreme.
I'll take the speed down on that section from 1.6 to 1.4 and you can see how it is for you.

I did something similar on the old /v/ minecraft server. A guy attacked me near my spawn point. When I respawned and started attacking him, he disconnected. I placed a lava pool directly under where he would spawn when he returned (which happened to be in my house), and watched him whine to admins for about fifteen minutes as he died repeatedly. I finally let him go when I felt I'd had enough laughs.

Saturday and Sunday were productive days thanks to intervention and assistance from RHX and Qaz, my plans are coming together well in such regards. Hope to spend some time on it tonight. Lower levels of the Keep have become really nice so far, still gotta decorate plenty though.

I've been on a big singleplayer kick over the past few days, mainly involving adventures (read: severe frustrations) with dungeon spawner traps, so I've neglected the sever stuff.  Maybe my burst of creativity here will spill over to the treehouse.

I have also removed the join restricition on the server. If i find any evidence of anyone griefing, instant permaban.

With enchantments in the game now we are going to have to nail that mob spawning problem. Getting decent enchantments pretty much requires your own personal mob farm to funnel mobs to you to kill, and atm there's only 1 semi working farm on the server (fenris)

1) No more grinders, you can obviously see what the first one did

2) It has been fixed, lay off it already

New mob spawning code is based on number of loaded chunks rather than a fixed limit of number of mobs, so mob density on the server should be constant

Qaz, I'll finish up the The-End portal in the stronghold. I'll need a few specific blocks for that when you have time. Since we lack natural portal strongholds. It's all set up to put it in place.
