SVN (or git/mercurial) is good for development teams, but if we ever succeed in getting a lot of people playing, it's not the best solution simply because we don't want users having to use TortoiseSVN (or equivalent) just to play.

This is an issue that really does need a code solution of some sort.

TortoiseSVN is so ridiculously easy to use that I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that point.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

I agree it's easy to use, but it shouldn't be a requirement to play a game.

It might be worth using for the open beta though.

Well git is available by default on two of the platforms (OSX and Linux).  Chances are you could just have game execute a command line instruction to sync the missions directory.  However that doesn't necessarily work for windows users since it doesn't include git as part of the core OS.  I'm sure there is an opensource git command line client for windows out there, but it just adds one more layer of complexity.

The way the game is able to transfer missions now is a plus.  Maybe working on some kind of system that can check versions or maybe just creating a naming convention and hopefully getting people to use it as part of the "best practices" for mission design or something is the way to go.

Thank you,
I downloaded and extracted them into diaspora\data\missions with no luck.
They seemed to not show up.
Is there another folder to insert them into.

I also didnt know what to do with the *.fs2 files, they were in code, Do UI need to create my own FRED file and paste it into it?

Thanks
Rog

All you need to do is stick them in that folder. Some of the missions are single player and need to be played via the tech room but the multiplayer ones should have shown up for you.

Yeah, none are working for me except Liner - its the only one that shows when hosting.

The co-op mission called 'Payback' that was recently released shows up in co-op...not sure why the others do not.

Okay, I downloaded everything from my little archive and I found I had 4 missions which weren't part of the Diaspora release.

Coop
Cylon Mission 1
Free Flight 1.3

TvT
Capital Ship Team Vs Team

Dogfight
Liner Graveyard v1.2

I didn't try Payback since you say it works. What other missions have you tried which didn't show up?
