[FotG Update] Fall 2024
It's been a few months since our last official forum update, so all of us at Fate of the Galaxy want to share what we have been working on during the fall. A highlight list includes the following:

  • Added the V-wing (large thanks to Robert for sharing that excellent model and texture!). Also added a V-wing cockpit (thanks Limbert!). The V-wing helps fill out the Privateer ship selection, along with providing FREDers with other options if they want to use it for that faction or even an earlier Republic suited mission. 
  • Added option for players to use respawning in singleplayer. This option is off by default, but can be enabled in the same settings screen as the 'Gradual Primary Auto Aim' setting. Overall the goal is give players multiple accessibility and customization options, including allowing them to play FotG after a busy work day without worry about deaths causing a frustrating end to a mission (especially since death can occur relatively quickly in FotG).
  • Added extra sound variance to TIE burst weapon mode to better match movie portrayal (thanks Limbert!).
    Added/Enabled debris explosion and collision sounds (thanks Goober!). This way debris and collisions have a more dynamic feel. 
  • Updated some ships with additional graphics tuneups, such as adding wingtip glowpoints on the Zeta to better match the movie and the Lambda. Also updated select glow maps to highly reduce pixelation and updated E-wing diffuse textures with properly removed AO map along with tuned up color textures (thanks Limbert!).
  • Updated astromech chatter voices so that the Rebels use more well-maintained droids while the pirates tend to use more weathered and grizzled droids.
  • Updated screenshot helper key to be an actual bindable key so players can more easily pause the game to grab nice screenshots.
  • Updated a few positionings of option labels to avoid overlap at very low resolutions, which now means yes FotG still technically supports playing at 640x480.
  • Updated Project Alderaan with many fixes, polish, and cleanup. 
  • Updated and fixed many other components with cleanup and fixes, which are too long to list here!


Community Connections
As always, we want to highlight all the fantastic work completed by the FSO devs, too. They have continued adding optimizations, code cleanup, bug fixes, and many other updates that FotG uses. Just to name a few, 24.2 stable was officially released, MJN has continued refining and augmenting SCPUI, Goober has added multiple enhancements and cleanup, and Lafiel has multiple enhancements to graphics and internal systems such as curve functions. In addition, ShivianSPS, taylor, and Cyborg have pushed many updates for the excellent Knossos.NET launcher, which FotG will be releasing on. As always, there’s many other devs adding great fixes, features, and other enhancements, too.


Moving Forward
We also want to thank you all for your continued enthusiasm and support! We are moving quite close to our internal milestones for a public release and are excited to share the game with you all once those are completed. In the meantime, here are some new screenshots. This is one of those subtle polish changes that really enhance the experience.  Should be fun to hear those.
